Ferndene held a Careers Week, during the week beginning 20th May 2019, to help young people learn about opportunities for continued learning in the region, and make them aware of the different jobs that people do, to widen their horizons.
We had presentations from Newcastle College, Gateshead College, Northumberland College and the National Careers Service. Beth from the Newcastle Dog Shelter came and talked about her work at the Shelter and what the charity are doing. We also had a visit from a member of the Fire Brigade and two NHS members of staff who talked about their roles in coordinating Apprenticeships and overseeing recycling.
During the week some young people took part in an Environment Challenge competition, whilst others went on visits to the Newcastle Recovery College, a Careers Fair and a Recording Studio.
The week culminated in certificates being awarded to participants, we also presented AQA Education Certificates. Well done to all the young people and staff who gave new experiences and opportunities a go.
Talk from Bill Tyler, Newcastle College, with items that linked to lots of vocational courses studied there.
