Last week students on ward 14 undertook a Science experiment to investigate the different properties of solids and liquids.
The students began by watching a clip which showed a similar experiment to the one that they were about to undertake being carried out on a larger scale. In the clip a swimming pool was filled with custard and someone then proposed walking across this – the students predicted what would happen!
Students recreated the experiment by mixing together cornflower and water to make a ‘gloop’ substance. They then tested what happened when different objects were placed on top of the gloop. They discovered that when the gloop was under pressure it behaved as a solid and when it was at rest it acted as a liquid.
