Staff and pupils at Newcastle Bridges School took part in the Mental Health Foundation’s ‘Wear it Green Day Event’ on Thursday 18th of May.
Throughout the week, pupils had an opportunity to explore issues relating to their mental health with the aim of raising awareness and normalising conversations about mental health.
On Thursday, staff from all sites at Newcastle Bridges School were invited to participate in a wellbeing event. Ms Ward kindly facilitated an art therapy session which involved staff using charcoal to create drawings whilst blindfolded and listening to relaxing music. One member of staff commented that they had found the experience to be "very calming and almost like a kind of meditation". To aid relaxation further, Ms Biggs offered staff hand massages and a Barista van provided everyone who attended with a free hot drink.
On Friday 19th of May, Karen also visited the staff at Ferndene and GNCH sites to offer 1:1 wellbeing audits; staff at all sites have been offered a 1:1.
Overall, it was a very relaxing and worthwhile experience and we are looking forward to organising more events of this nature in future.
