Rugby Star Swaddle Makes his Debut
Return to Latest NewsAfter a few weeks of training, Newcastle Bridges School Year 11 student Lewis Swaddle played his first game of rugby this weekend. He represented the Northumberland Barbarians which is a combination of Ponteland RFC, Northern FC and Morpeth RFC against Westoe South Shields.
Teaching and Learning Support Assistant Mr Mew, who plays rugby for Ponteland RFC, introduced Lewis to rugby, and said “I am so chuffed Lewis played his first game. After being at NBS for just over a year, I knew rugby would be the perfect fit for Lewis. Seeing how being in the rugby environment and how the core values of the sport has changed Lewis, is something I am very proud off. Especially seeing how hard he has worked. I have also encouraged Lewis’s classmate Joseph and former student Jack to play rugby but they are both yet to play their first games. Ponteland RFC is my home club so I know all the coaches there and how supportive they can be so I knew they would help Lewis, Joseph and Jack with their transitions. I am looking forward to seeing them all develop and grow into the sport.”
