Physical Campaign
Return to Latest NewsAs part of our work towards the Gold Better Health at Work Award, staff at Newcastle Bridges School have been engaged in a variety of physical activities. Research shows that overall as a person moves more in general and reduces sitting time (sedentary behaviour) risk of all-cause mortality goes down. Whether it is small bouts or large bouts of movement, trying to break up long stretches of sedentary behaviour is important and helpful for overall fitness. Staff and pupils at the Kenton site also wrote individual physical pledges, taking time to think about what they wanted to achieve and determining what changes would help them to reach their goal.
To follow on from this, we devoted one of our staff meetings to ‘physical activity’ with Larry leading a rugby workshop and Karen leading a relaxation/stretching class. Finally, we have decided to dedicate our final twilight to developing and raising awareness of the importance of physical activity. Staff across all NBS sites have had the opportunity to select between three fun options: A walking tour of Ouseburn tunnels, crazy golf or ten pin bowling.
