During this week’s visit to Kirkley Hall the weather was glorious! We went out in the sunshine to the willow maze where we learned how to use the loppers and the saw to safely to chop down branches and collected the willow to feed the animals around the zoo. We also collected some blossom as a special treat for the lemurs! Firstly we went to see Darius and Dallas the alpacas and fed them some willow. We then went in to the black and white ruffed lemurs and hid some willow and blossom around the enclosure as enrichment, the 3 lemurs were very timid and hid until the students had left the enclosure to look for the food. We then moved to the ring tailed lemur enclosure, these lemurs were very confident and enjoyed grabbing the branches from our hands before we had a chance to hide it! We gave the goats some of the spare willow on passing which they very much enjoyed. The last enclosure that we went to was crown lemurs. This is home to a male and female which the zoo are hoping will breed. We hid blossom and willow and we got to see inside the enclosure which was big and had lots of heaters to keep the lemurs warm. The lemurs really enjoyed eating the blossom as a special treat!
